Learning about God from Psalm 1.
Twenty-eight marble steps, called the "Holy Stairs," were brought from Jerusalem to Rome about a.d. 326. They are said to be the very stairs Jesus climbed when He went before Pontius Pilate. Although most of us will never have an opportunity to see or climb these stairs, all Christians are ascending the eight "holy stairs" of 2 Peter 1:5-7.
The sixth step is "godliness" (eusebeia) which is found fifteen times in the New Testament (once translated "holiness"). It means "reverence, respect, or piety towards God." What does it mean to be "godly"? Let’s let God tell us in the first song of the Hebrew Hymnal where godliness (Psalm 1:1-3) is contrasted with ungodliness (1:4-6).
