The type of confession God desires
Tabloids, cable television, and the dark side of the Internet have found a lucrative market in "true confessions." Ironically, these are often completely fabricated or, when true, usually belong to that category Scripture describes as "a shame even to speak of" (Ephesians 5:12).
Still, there is a place for true confessions. In fact, God really likes true confessions. He notes them. He collects them. He celebrates them. He wants every living person to make one.
The true confession God is looking for is the one the Ethiopian treasurer first made years ago: "I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God" (Acts 8:37). God wants to hear it from every mouth He ever made, including yours and mine (Exodus 4:11).
This pamphlet analyzes perhaps the greatest New Testament passage on confessing Christ:
If thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation (Romans 10:9-10).
